Wow...interesting, who knew anyone was really that into birds and takes it so seriously. BTW, I saw a bald eagle flying over our King Super (a.k.a. Kroger) store in Parker, CO the other day. My wife and I were staring up at it and several other people started to look up in awe at the beautiful symbol of our great country. Some old guy in the parking lot approached us and said "hey, thanks for staring up into the sky at that eagle, I'd have never noticed had you not been looking". Reminds me of an old quote my mom and dad used to often recite when we would watch birds....

"Birdy, birdy in the sky dropped some whitewash in my eye, gee I'm glad that cows don't fly". Okay I have now wasted at least 10 minutes of my day on this when I could have been keeping up with my overflowing inbox at work. Thanks Tom, I did enjoy the article...well written!

Nice story, Tom. I remember those trails, although I was always watching the ducks. Are ducks even birds? It's funny how we are wired to seek out and learn new things, but in doing so we become experts, and lose the magic of seeing something from the outside, and it seems we end up getting lost in the trivial, the particulars.

I enjoyed this very much, Tom! Going to be out your way sometime this spring/summer, would be great to catch up over a cold one.

Great story! You really played the line well between funny and just creepy enough. Kept me on my toes the whole time wondering what was going to happen with Carl and Benjamin. I really enjoyed this
