The Barn at the End of the Slough
In this first exploration of one of my favorite places in the Snohomish River valley, I start at the end--the end of the trail.
We discovered the Slough—technically, the Fobes-Ebey Slough Dike Road Trail—early in the pandemic, as part of our quest to find new ways to be outside.
As we came to know the Slough, we found ourselves drawn to this old barn near the end of the trail.
At first, the damaged panel spoke to us.
Then the panel was repaired--and we began to notice how the colors shifting in the light.
Late in January 2022, the light was just right to show us something surprising and new about the barn: some of the panels are semi-transparent (which means “imperfectly transparent,” a perfectly apt definition here, don’t you think?) Can you see what I mean:
Of course, there's more than one angle on the barn ...
And then, just last week, this other barn caught my eye ...
