We share a similar yearning to push the limits. A little adventure goes a long way. You never know when these experiences will provide the inspiration needed for another story. I can't remember the last time I truly pushed the limits... it's time to find something.

Love the forgotten nature trail betrayed by the flowers. My brother in law will enjoy this story and news of the track ... for my self, I'm keeping all four wheels on the ground.

Excellent story, you described track driving in a way I could understand it even though I never did drive on a track. However, I rode a motorcycle for years and later traded it in for a Miata so I always enjoyed fun vehicles. I took a week long road trip to various places in the eastern US for many years as well. So... many aspects of your story had meaning for me.

I don't think I can say I liked one piece over the other. They're both so different - and for me they complement one another very well. Once provides some geographical and cultural context, the other more of your inner motivational context. (Interesting that you didn't mention that you spun out on the first essay - that sounds pretty unnerving.)

Pushing the limits once in a while is important for me also. I did a little of that on Friday climbing. I'll be doing a lot of that in August on Mt Whitney - that route will certainly stretch my limits and push me out of my comfort zone. I'm looking forward to it - but admittedly a bit apprehensive.

Anyway - I liked how you linked pushing your limits on the track to other aspects of your life. It was a great narrative. But I'm glad you wrote both pieces. ;)

I love that you are purposefully trying to find your limits. I tend to do the opposite. I play it safe, then accidentally find a limit. It's something I've worked on for years trying to push myself and not worry about the outcome that PUSHING is the outcome. Thanks for the reminder Tom.

To me, a boundary implies something static, and what I can do changes day by day, especially with physical things, like dance and running. The same is true with writing--some days I can be more creative than others. I like to be challenged. I think most people do. I think it's part of our wiring as humans.
